Baked Goods

Most of our homemade food falls under the provisions of the Montana Local Food Choice Act. However, Julie holds a Cottage Food License under our much smaller business, Julie's Cottage Creations. All food baked in the ranch kitchen is made to the standards of the cottage food license requirements or better.

What is a Cottage Food License? Basically, a Cottage Food License is a license that allows certain food items to be produced in a home kitchen and sold to the general public. Cottage foods must be sold directly to the consumer within the State of Montana. The products must be labeled, sold directly to consumers, and registered on the license.

4 Bear Ranch, LLC homemade food and food products are prepared in accordance with the Montana Local Food Choice Act. Under the Montana Local Food Choice Act, certain homemade food producers are exempt from food licensure, permitting, certification, packaging, labeling, and inspection regulations when selling items to an informed consumer. Sourdough:

I have had a lot of fun baking a variety of sourdough breads. Sourdough breads tend to use simpler ingredients, resulting in a delicious loaf of bread. There are several types that vary in texture, shape, and, or course, flavors. If you have a hankering for a loaf of sourdough, send the ranch an e-mail. We can either make the loaf fresh, if you give enough advanced notice, or might even have it in stock in the freezer. Sourdough ages quickly, so to prevent premature aging before you receive your loaf, freezing immediately after baking and cooling is the best option that results in the same texture and flavor as when the bread came out of the oven. Sourdough does not stay in the freezer long, I would be amazed if we ever found a loaf over a month old. We love our sourdough!
